Daguerian excursions in Jamaica being a collection of views of the most striking scenery, public buildings and other interesting objects, taken on the spot with the daguerreotype by Adolphe Duperly and lithographed under his direction by the most eminent artists in Paris. Photographer(s): Duperly, Adolphe
- Scope & Content:
-
Imprint: Published by A. Duperly, Kingston Jamaica [?1844].
Red cloth-bound volume (British Library binding) measuring 292x445mm; titlepage and 24 lithographic prints after daguerreotypes, without additional text. In addition to a brief caption, each print bears the credit 'Taken with the Daguerreotype by A. Duperly. Lithographed by ...' The names of the credited lithographers are J. Jacottet, Ph. Benoist, Georges Muller and Bachelier. Each plate is also printed, ' 'Kingston. Published by A. Duperly. Printed by Thierry Brothers'. A note on the titlepage states that 'The work will comprehend 48 views or subjects in 12 numbers to appear periodically'. The 24 views in the present copy appear to be all that were published. The work may well have been inspired by the extensive series of travel views from daguerreotypes, published in Paris by Noel Marie Paymal Lerebours between 1840 and 1843, under the title, 'Excursions daguerriennes, représentant les vues et les monuments anciens et les vues remarquables du globe'.
