Large folio volume measuring 458 x 570 mm in modern red buckram binding, with letterpress titlepage and contents page, and ten prints laid down onto pages impressed with Tripe's drystamp (initial 'T.L.' within strap reading 'Government Photographer', surmounted by sun with human face). Each print has a small letterpress number label pasted next to the the top right corner. All four parts of the Views in Madura series, Photo 953/1-4 have been bound in a single volume. The volume is one of a series of publications issued in 1858 from Tripe's work as Government Photographer to the Madras Presidency (the complete series comprises Photo 950-958).
