Folio, 425 x 332 mm, quarter-leather binding with marbled paper boards, pp. 24, containing 33 Prints of botanical specimens mounted on card and bound on guards, with letterpress descriptions and part wrappers bound in. The prints are mounted within rules, one to a page (recto), with plate number in Roman numerals printed above each image and identifying caption beneath. Each print also has the photographer's credit, 'Antoine, photog.', printed centrally beneath the image. The work was issued in 6 parts between 1857 and 1860, with plates inserted as follows:Part 1 Plates I-III.Part 2 Plates IV-IX.Part 3 Plates X-XV.Part 4 Plates XVI-XXI.Part 5 Plates XXII-XXVII.Part 6 Plates XXVIII-XXXIII.Franz Antoine (1815-1886) was the Director of the gardens at the Castle of Schönbrunn in Vienna, and was also the author of 'Die Coniferen' (1840-47), 'Der Wintergarten der K. K. Hofburg zu Wien' (1852) and 'Phyto-Iconographie der Bromeliaceen' (1884).
