Octavo, full leather bound volume measuring 245 x 160 mm (boards detached), pp. 173, map. The work comprises an account of the construction of the Santiago-Valparaiso railway line, together with a biographical notice of the American contractor Henry Meiggs (1811-1877). The illustrations comprise five (not four) albumen prints, with lithographed captions beneath: a frontispiece portrait of Meiggs, views of the stations at Santiago and Valparaiso and two views of structures on the line.
