Octavo, measuring 217 x 152 mm, original blue cloth binding with decoration stamped in gilt and in blind on upper and lower boards; edges gilt; pp. [4], 47, [1], with 25 albumen print architectural views, mounted one to a page, with letterpress captions beneath each image. The placing of the prints does not accord with the page numbers given in the list of illustrations at the start of the book, and it is unclear whether the photographs have been rebound in a different placing when the book was restored in 1993, or whether this reflects the original ordering. Page numbers given in this catalogue reflect the present ordering of the photographs. In an advertisement for the work, printed at the back of Stephens' 'Flemish relics' (1866), the photographs in this work are credited to Cundall and Downes.
