Quarto, measuring 230 x 175 mm, bound in green cloth, with decoration stamped in gilt and blind on upper and lower boards, the upper board featuring Shakespeare's coate of arms in gilt, the lower a cartouche with initials 'W. S.,' edges gilt; x, 203, 16pp. The work contains 15 small albumen print views of places associated with the life of Shakespeare, mounted on light card within a tinted border, with lithographed captions printed beneath each image. In his preface, Jephson pays tribute to his photographer thus: 'I am the more bold to offer this little sketch to lovers of England's greatest poet, because, if, like Moses, my speech be weak and stammering, I am assisted by a coadjutor whose camera is almost as great a worker of wonders as was Aaron's rod.'
