Inscribed on slip of paper pasted to border in Urdu: ‘baz bahadur u rupmati, 36’ (Baz Bahadur and Rupmati, 36).
Gouache with gold; on an album page with blue and red borders and gold rules, from the same album as Add.Or.4-7 etc.

From the collection of Sir Elijah Impey with his seal on the reverse dated 1775.
Baz Bahadur, the Muslim ruler of Malwa from 1554, rides through a moonlit landscape with his mistress Rupmati who puts an arm about his shoulders and looks into his eyes. The buildings of Mandu are on the horizon.
