Purchased 26 October 1954 from Mrs Vandaleur, a descendant of Sir Herbert Edwardes, assistant to Henry Lawrence, resident at Lahore in 1847 and 1848. The pictures were found amongst Edwardes’s papers (‘see also:’ Add.Or.708-709, 2640-2647, etc.).
Inscribed on fly-leaf in ink in Urdu: Sri ‘Raja Maharaja Bahadur Gulab Singh’; in English: ‘Maha Raja Golab Singh.’
Gouache with gold; floral and pink borders.

Maharaja Gulab Singh rides a finely caparisoned white stallion across a green field, followed by an attendant who holds a sunshade over him.
