A bird’s-eye view of the Red Fort at Delhi from the east, showing an emperor, probably Shah ‘Alam (1759-1806) entering the Diwan~i-Khas on the right. The Rang Mahal is on the left, the Khwabgah Jharoka in the centre, and the Pearl Mosque on the extreme right.
Note: Similar pictures are in the collection of the Baroda Museum (‘see’ Goetz (1952); M. Archer (1969), figs 17 and 18), and an almost identical view is in the Royal Ontario Museum, 924.12.143 (illustrated in Beach (1979), no.31). Three bird’s-eye views of gardens and palaces (formerly British Library Add.15969, now in the British Museum) were given by Col. Antoine Polier to Ozias Humphry at Lucknow on 11 May 1786.
