Water-colour; 4.75 by 7.52 ins. Indian ink rule border.
Inscribed on mount: ‘The China Tomb at Agra now in ruins (Extracts from the Koran).’ Purchased 20 February 1967.
Note: The Chini-ka-rauza (China Tomb) is situated near the tomb of I‘timad al-Daula on the same side of the river. It is covered with mosaic tile-work which gives the tomb its name. It is supposed to be the tomb of Afzal Khan ‘Allami, a Persian scholar who entered the service of Jahangir and became Prime Minister to Shah Jahan. He died at Lahore in 1639, and was buried at Agra in the tomb he had erected during his own lifetime.
