The Jagannatha trio. Similar in technique to Add.Or.3719 but using the following different idioms: each of the three figures has separate vertical posts as legs, there are no wing-like ‘arms’, Balabhadra and Jagannatha have upraised arms ending in peg-like stumps, there are plain black borders. As in 3719, parti-coloured caps in place of top-knots. The Sudarsana Cakra omitted from Add.Or.3717-3720.
By a citrakar of Puri, Puri district, Orissa, early-twentieth century.
Gouache on paper; 340 by 345 mm. Unfinished.
Acquired by W.G. Archer from members of the painter community in a suburb of Puri, December 1933. Purchased 1974.
