The Jagannatha trio garlanded

The Jagannatha trio ‘in excelsis.’ A smaller version of Add.Or.3723 but with the same meticulous attention to detail and the same aim of glorifying the trio. Notable differences are the treatment of Subhadra with extremities, waist and torso as in the other two figures and the insertion of a midget Jagannatha among the four tiny figures at the base. The Sudarsana Cakra is supplied with a sash. Border with floral scroll.
By a citrakar of Puri, Puri district, Orissa, c.1920-30.

Acquired by W.G. Archer from a stall adjoining the Puri temple, December 1933. Purchased 1974.
