The Jagannatha trio. Comparable in design and idioms to Add.Or.3719 with Balabhadra and Jagannatha possessing human arms, legs and torsos, their knees bent as if dancing, yellow wooden ‘arms’ with red stripes sprouting like wings from behind their shoulders. Below them a panel of four seated gods, Garuda in the centre.
Chromolithograph; 125 by 180 mm.
Inscribed with name and address of the publisher at base in printed English and ‘nagari’ characters: ‘Registered 645 Anant Shivaji Desai Motibazar, Puri Ravi Varma Press Malavli - Lonavla.’
Acquired by W.G. Archer from a stall adjoining the Puri temple, December 1933. Purchased 1974.
