A Calcutta paddle-steamer with three Europeans on board. One top-hatted man looks through his telescope, another stands beside a woman seated on a chair. A boatman stands at the stern, with an armed sepoy beside him. The boat has a nude female figure for a figurehead, red and green sails and a blue funnel.
