Note: Purchased by W.G. Archer at Patna in 1948 from the family collection of Ishwari Prasad who attributed it to a family member of the early nineteenth century. This drawing was based on a prototype lithographed by Sir Charles D’Oyly and Christopher Webb Smith c.1830 (see IOL:X294, p.72). Patna artists continued to copy these prints making minor variations of their own. For the same bird but with the addition of a landscape by a later Patna artist, Bahadar Lal II (c.1850-1910), see M. Archer, ‘Patna Painting’ (London, 1947), pl.38. See also Add.Or.2550.
