'This painting was created in Hereford Cathedral in close proximity to the medieval 'Mappa Mundi' when Andrea was artist-in-residence.
She explains that she was 'weaving together my experience of time (lent and spring) and place (the cathedral) through colour and pattern. My idea [was] to make a work about the Mappa Mundi.. [as] an example of how you can show a whole world, beautifully imagined, in one picture and the sight of it enables me to begin to think of God and everything that is beyond this material world.'
The painting stands alone as the artist's world view of the world, but it utilizes figurative elements and philosophical concepts derived from the medieval map.
