No order for the making of the bust can be traced but the Court Minutes, 1 December, 1815, record payment: ‘Resolved that a warrant be made out for £157.10s to Mr. P. Turnerelly, the amount of his charge for a bust in marble of His Grace the Duke of Wellington, which has been delivered agreeably to order, and placed in the Company’s Library’. Replicas of this bust are at the Guildhall, Goodwood and in the Victoria Memorial Hall, Calcutta. The Goodwood bust is dated 1817. A modern marble copy by Leo Stevenson is now in this bust's traditional place at the entrance to the old India Office.
