Sir George Pocock (1706-92), Admiral 1757-59. Made 1764.
Full-length figure, bareheaded, in Roman costume. From under his cloak the badge of the Order of the Bath. His left hand rests upon his hip; the right is placed upon a model of a galley, supported by a short pedestal ornamented with naval emblems. Behind him a quiver of arrows.
Marble. 71 ins (180 cms) high
Inscribed: ‘Sir George Pocock. Knight of the Bath. Admiral of the Blue. A.D. 1764.’ On side:’P Scheemakers Ft’
Commissioned by the East India Company, 1760
Pocock was in India 1754-60. He fought two naval actions with the French off the Coromandel Coast 1758-59.
