India’s Homage to the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey, 1924
The King Emperor’s four Sikh Indian Orderly Officers, Risaldar Jiwan Singh, I.D.S.M., Subadar Harnath Singh, M.C., I.O.M., Risaldar Rewat Singh, M.C., and Subadar-Major Bir Singh, M.C., standing by the grave of the Unknown Warrior. They are wearing white, blue and navy blue uniforms with red and gold kamarbands. Behind them on the left stand two Gentlemen-at-Arms in white-plumed helmets, red coats and blue trousers. On the right stand Canon Storr in scarlet, E.F. Knapp-Fisher, Receiver-General of the Abbey, in black with a white cravat, and a verger in black.

Presented by the artist at the closing of the British Empire Exhibition, Wembley, where it had hung in the Bengal Court.
The picture was unveiled at the India Office by the Earl of Birkenhead, Secretary of State for India, on 11 December 1924. The painting depicts an incident which occurred on the occasion of the wedding of H.R.H. Duke of York on 26 April 1923, when a party of the King’s Indian Orderly Officers were conducted to the grave of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey, where they were received by the Abbey authorities.
