Note: Samuel Nevill Ward (b.1813, fl. 1831-63) was a member of the Madras Civil Service from 1831-63. He served in Canara in 1837 as Registrar of the Zillah Court and in 1843 and from 1845-47 as Acting Sub-Collector and Joint Magistrate. He was a well-known amateur naturalist. He presented specimens to the Company's Museum, and Horsfield refers to his insect collection in Part II of the Catalogue to the Museum's collection of Lepidopterous Insects. This unfinished sketch, apparently made by Ward, may have been presented to the Indian Museum when he went on leave in 1847.
