Family Cyprinidae, Genus ‘Schizothorax’ or ‘Schizopyge’
Original inscriptions: ‘Natural size. Found beyond the rivers above Gurdope, Tartary. Found in hundreds. Will take any insect in the form of a fly. Genl. Sir J. Hearsey.’

Note: Sir John Bennett Hearsey (1793-1865), who was born in India, served in Bundelkhand, Rewa, in the Pindari and Mahratta Wars, and at Bharatpur, Dig, Chilianwala and Gujarat. He helped suppress the Barrackpore and 1857 Mutinies. He commanded the 6th Bengal Light Cavalry and later the 21st Hussars.
