Ninety-seven drawings in gouache depicting flowers, fruits and roots, measuring approx. 10.25 7.25 inches bound in a ‘muraqqa'‘ measuring 14 by 11 inches.
These drawings by an Indian artist were collected by John Leyden (1775-1811) while he was in India from 1803 to 1810. They were entered in the 'Catalogue of Dr. John Leyden's Oriental Library, Calcutta, 1812' (Mss Eur D562/20) as'Kitabi Tusweer, a Book of drawings of Plants'. They were received by the Library in 1824. (For Leyden, see Archer's Natural History Drawings in the India Office Library, pp.10-11.)
The paintings are inscribed with their vernacular names in the Persian script and the last page is inscribed '97 Oriental Drawings of Flowers & Fruits. Bibliotheca Leydeniana, 438'.
