This drawing formed part of the Impey Collection at the Linnaean Society which was sold at Sotheby's in June 1963. Sir Elijah and Lady Impey, while living in Calcutta from 1774 to 1782, employed several Indian artists, including Shaykh Zayn al-Din, Ram Das and Bhawani Das, all 'natives of Patna', to make natural history drawings for them. Their collection became dispersed but until 1963 sixty-three drawings were preserved in the Linnaean Society. (See also Add.Or.4667.)
