Coloured aquatint of Vizagapatam in Andhra Pradesh by John Wells published in 1788 after an original drawing by Captain Elisha Trapaud (1750-1828). Situated between the Eastern Ghats in southern India and the sea, Vizagapatam was originally a fishing village and forms a natural harbour. The British East India Company set up a Factory here in the mid 17th century. The town is now a major port and industrial centre, known for its oil refineries and ship-building industry.
