The sketch-book includes a number of drawings of houses in the neighbourhood of Calcutta, including the Governor-General's house at Barrackpore in its state between the attentions of Sir George Barlow (1806) and Lord Moira (1814). It is seen twice in the background to drawings of another classical house, across the river from Barrackpore, which Archer mistakenly thought was the mansion at the head of Garden Reach which was bought by William Burke (Paymaster General of the King’s Troops) in 1784 and which had been earlier painted by William Hodges (c.1782).
