Pencil; 18 by 23.5 cm.
Provenance: deposited on permanent loan by the 5th Earl of Amherst, M.C., together with Add.Or.2538-2540, WD2966, P1743, and Mss Eur F140; purchased 1997.
Note: In 1816-17 Lord Amherst led a British mission to the Emperor of China. Although not attached to Lord Amherst’s embassy the artist may have been a naval officer on a ship at Canton.
