- Scope & Content:
-
A view of the Mahal Nikusiyar in the Agra Fort.
Original inscription copied in a later hand: ‘Capt. Parker’s quarters in the Fort of Agra 1804’.
Water-colour; 32.5 by 40 cm.
Provenance: From an album of drawings inherited by the artist’s son, Neville Anbury Parker, and thence by family descent until 1987. Purchased 1989.
Note: Parker served with Lord Lake in his campaign against the Marathas during which Agra was captured in October 1803. The Mahal Nikusiyar is one of three buildings erected apparently during the Jat occupation of Agra in the north-west part of the fort, the others being the Haveli Dan Shah and the Haveli Nikusiyar.
