Note: The East Indiaman General Hewitt of 894 tons, on its fifth and final voyage, sailing from the Downs on 19 June 1822 along with the Marchioness of Ely. It sailed to India between 1815 and 1823.

Note: Marchioness of Ely,952 tons, made nine voyages to India between 1811 and 1827. Passengers were required to furnish their own cabins on board ship and accomodation was often on a first come first served basis. Young officers travelling to India usually limited themselves to a cot, a wash-stand, table, and chair.

The Back a beautiful rich dark Blue; the belly a silvery white, caught by Sir Harry Darrel in Lat:20:6S Longd:28:20N - in length about 2 1/2 inches.’ And for the shark: ‘One of 24 sharks, taken out of a female Blue Shark caught in Latd:30:17S Longd:87:54E - the back a beautiful Blue, the Belly white - the mother measur'd about 7 feet-the young ones from a foot to 14 inches.’

f.15 ‘The Head of an Albatross. White - Bill pinkish - measuring 7½ Inches from corner of the eye to point of Bill - 7 of these Birds, were shot Sept: 10th in Latd:36:43S Longd:45: 30E. They measured from the extreme point of one wing to the other, from 9 feet 7 inches to 9 ft: 10 ins varying in Color: some being nearly all white-with the ends of some of the feathers on the back beautifully pencild & large pointed feathers black - others nearly all Brown on back and wings - white belly breast & inside wings.’
