Water-colour; size of volume and drawings 20 by 29 ins. Indian ink border and rule. Water-marks of 1811 and 1815. Bookplates of John and Richard Fort of Read Hall.
Presented by Richard Fort, 1 July 1944.
Note: Richard Fort was the great-grandson of ‘General Smith’ by whom the drawings were acquired. ‘Smith’ was most probably Sir Lionel Smith (1778-1842) who served in India from1807 to 1833 and commanded in the Third Maratha War of 1817 to 1818. He may well have obtained these drawings in Agra or Delhi about 1817. They are uniform in style and size and are probably by the same artist. They show the building in elevation against a white background. Small boats appear on the river. Otherwise no human details.
