Probably by a Delhi artist, c.1825.
Water-colour; varying sizes. Water-marks of 1819, 1820 and 1822.
Purchased 27 September 1906.
Note: These drawings were acquired at the same time as Add.Or.547-557 and are in a very similar style. Unlike the latter drawings they do not appear to be a stock set and it seems probable that a Delhi painter accompanied some British officer to the Punjab and made these landscapes specially for him. At the date when these drawings were made Ranjit Singh was at the height of his power and the Punjab was still an area little known to the British.
The drawings are in a similar style showing a low flat landscape with a great expanse of sky, and a foreground consisting of blurred washes of colour. Shades of brown and drill green predominate. Narrow Indian ink border and rule.
