60 drawings bound into a volume; 10 depicting rulers of the Punjab and Sikh heroes, 10 buildings and places in the Punjab, especially Lahore, 40 occupations.
By a Punjabi artist at Lahore, c.1860.
The volume has an Indian binding and is entitled: ‘Punjab Portraits, Buildings and Professions - Coloured Drawings,’ the spine and title having been added by the Library. All drawings, except 1485, are inscribed with titles in Persian characters.
Water-colour; size of volume 9.75 by 8 ins.
Purchased 13 May 1911.
Note: This set is almost identical to Add.Or.1397-1451 although by a different hand or shop. The drawings are perhaps closer to the traditional miniature style but the figures are shown in isolation against an uncoloured background. The rulers and heroes, apart from Ranjit Singh on a western-style chair, are shown seated on the ground on rugs. Each drawing is surrounded by a gold, red and blue rule border.
