Note: These drawings together with Add.Or.2008-2332 appear to have reached the Library as a result of a request from the East India Company to the Canton Factory in 1805 for paintings of ‘miscellaneous subjects’. A list of the present drawings, on paper with an 1818 water-mark, has been preserved in the Library’s records (Mss Eur D562.16). It appears to be an early attempt at listing the pictures. These descriptions are given below, together with a rough translation of the Chinese inscriptions which occur on thirty-four of the drawings.
