Note: These water colours originally belonged to the Rev. David Patterson (1910-1944). He taught in the Diocescan Boys High School (1933-36) in Shewbo. He returned to England and after being ordained returned to Burma in 1938 with the SPG first to teach at St. John’s College, Rangoon, and later as Headmaster of the Diocesan School, Shwebo. On the invasion of Burma by the Japanese he became Chaplain to the Forces, being attached first to a British Battalion. After the retreat he joined Wingate’s Chindits as Chaplain. He was killed when his glider crashed in one of the Chindit operations in March 1944. The paintings were later given to Mr. Nash.
