GANGARAM CINTAMANI TAMBAT (fl. 1790-95)
A Maratha artist in the emply of the Peshwa at Poona, who also worked extensively for the British Resident at the Peshwa's court Sir Charles Warre Malet. Gangaram was employed especially to make drawings of the animals in the Peshwa's menagerie and in Malet's own at his large the Residency at the Sangam, and he also made a series of wax models of some of the animals.

Note: From an album done for Sir Charles Warre Malet, Resident at the Maratha court at Poona 1786-97. Malet lived in great style at his house near the junction of the Mula and Mootha rivers at Poona, maintaining gardens, orchards and a menagerie, as well as employing artists such as James Wales and Robert Mabon (see M. Archer, ‘India and British Portraiture 1770-1825,’ London, 1979, 333-55).
