Note: The Isarda ‘thakurs’ were of the Rajawat branch of the Kacchwaha Rajputs of Amber/Jaipur, descended from Raja Man Singh of Amber, and held their ‘thikana’ at Isarda 80 miles south-east of Jaipur. During the troubled times in Amber following the death of Mirza Raja Jai Singh, Isarda like other ‘thikanas’ attempted some degree of independence from Amber and its rulers patronised artists, principally the artist known as Wajid, whose name is inscribed on the reverse of several of the Isarda paintings of the 17th and early 18th century.
