Five paintings of religious and mythological subjects by Maithil Brahmin women, Madhubani district, Bihar, 1973 and 1974.
Inscribed on the reverse in ‘nagari’ characters and in English with particulars of the artists and subjects.
Pen-and-ink and water-colour; varying sizes.
Commissioned by the All India Handicrafts Board, New Delhi.
Presented on behalf of the Board by its Chairman, Pupul Jayakar, December 1975.
Note: Since the earlier materials were collected, administrative changes have taken place and the subdivision of Madhubani has been constituted a separate district by the Bihar Govemment.
