BADEN-POWELL, BADEN HENRY (1841-1901)

Indian Civil Service, Punjab, 1861-89. In the course of his service Baden-Powell was posted to Jullundur, Sialkot, Lahore, Ambala and Rawalpindi. Indian Forest Department 1869-74; special duty, Madras 1880-81. After his retirement he was employed fora short time in the Indian Revenue and Agriculture Department. He was a great enthusiast for the Indian village community and its arts and crafts. He published ‘Handbook of the Economic Products of the Punjab’ (Roorkee, 1868) and ‘Handbook of the Manufactures and Arts of the Punjab’ (Lahore, 1872).
