CRAMER-ROBERTS, CHARLES J. (1834-1895)

British Army 1853-87. Captain 1859; Major 1872; Lieut.-Colonel 1880; Colonel 1884. Served with the 49th Regiment in the Crimea from April 1855, taking part in the siege and fall of Sebastopol and the assaults of the Redan. He was in India from 1875 to 1887, serving with the 9th Foot (Norfolk Regiment) in the second Afghan War (1879-80). He took part in the advance to Kabul under Brigadier-General Gough and was present at the engagements of Jugdulluck and Saidapur, and the relief of Sherpore. This officer changed his name from C.J.C. Roberts to C.J. Cramer-Roberts in 1885.
