CRUMP, CHARLES WADE (1825-1857)
Born Halford, Warwickshire, son of Rev. Charles Collins Crump. Madras Artillery. Addiscombe 1842-4. Arrived India 1844. Lieutenant 1847. Served Saugor as Adjutant and Quarter-master, Assistant Executive Engineer and Executive Engineer 1850-1854. Brigade Major under Sir Henry Havelock during the relief of Cawnpore and the uprising at Lucknow and was killed 26 September 1857. M.I. St. Mary’s, Halford. Three of his drawings made during the campaign were lithographed by Vincent Brooks, published London 1858; see also drawings by Edwin Loder WD4318-4320.

Album, cover lettered ‘Sketches CWC’, with forty drawings most inscribed on reverse in pencil or ink and on mounts, possibly in a later hand, in ink. The drawings are not arranged chronologically but appear to have been made during periods of duty in Central India and while on furlough and sick leave. An index in the later hand is pasted at the front.
Water-colour with some scratching out. Drawings various sizes laid down in an album 54.5 by 38 cm.
