EDWARDES, Sir HERBERT BENJAMIN (1819-1868)
Edwardes went to India in the Bengal Infantry in 1841, but spent much of his career in civil administration. A.D.C. to Sir Hugh Gough 1845-46; assistant to Henry Lawrence, Lahore, 1847. During this period he pacified Bannu. Campaigned against Mulraj, Sikh Governor of Multan 1848; Deputy Commissioner of Jullundar 1851 and Hazara 1853; Commissioner of Peshawar 1853-59; furlough 1859-62; Commissioner of Ambala 1862-65.
