Trained at Westminster School of Art under Walter Bayes and Mark Gertler. Captain, Royal Marines 1941-4 and served as ADC to Lord Linlithgow and Lord Wavell. Accompanied Lady Linlithgow and others to Bhutan, May 1943.

Twelve drawings made during the Bhutan visit; one portrait, four figure studies and seven views. Each inscribed on front by the artist and on reverse by Mr. M. Aris (as MVA).
