JONES, JAMES FELIX, (1813-1878) after

Bombay Marine (Indian Navy). Midshipman 1828; Lieutenant 1838; Commander 1847; Captain 1858. Recommended by Henry Rawlinson to succeed him as Political Agent at Baghdad, he in fact became Resident and Political Agent at Bushire in 1855. Jones must have been in Baghdad earlier as his marriage to his Arab wife took place there and his eldest child was born there in 1853. He resigned in November 1862.

Nine wash drawings of Baghdad copied by various draughtsmen in the Quartermaster-General’s Office, Mahabaleshwar, in November 1855, from originals by Jones. The attribution to Jones is on the album pages, the captions on the drawings.
