KILBURN, DENYS (1899-1973)

Senior Superintendent, Indian Police. Arrived India 1921; served in the Punjab and at Delhi. OBE 1939. Spent part of each long leave in India and visited Rajasthan on several occasions to draw and paint after being inspired by James Tod, ‘Annals and antiquities of Rajasthan’, London, 1829-32. Some of Kilburn’s drawings were worked up from sketches made on the spot with architectural details taken from photographs. Retired to Mianwali, 1946. Died Murree. Appears in group photographs: Photo 339(2), 410(11), 348(8,10,11).
