MacColl joined the Indian Forest Service in 1921 as Assistant Conservator, stationed in Burma, officiating Deputy Conservator 1923, confirmed 1927, retired 1947. Won an M.C. in the War.

Two coloured prints by H. MacColl, Indian Forest Service (Burma), of Burman ethnic types, 1920-40. One has been used as a Christmas card by Dorothy Berrill.
Hand-coloured engravings, inscribed and signed by the artist; 12.5 by 33 cm
Presented 2001 by Mr. G. Bracher, Executor of the estate of Peter Murray (b. 1915), Burma Commission 1937-49, subsequently H.M. Foreign Servce till 1972.
