Note: Henry Lawrence’s sister, Charlotte Frances Lawrence, was the 10th child of Col. Alexander Lawrence (1762/4-1835) and Letitia Catherine, née Knox (1774-1846). Unmarried, she accompanied Henry and his wife Honoria (“Honie”) to India in 1848/9. In 1857 she and her niece, Honoria Letitia, went from Mt Abu to Bombay, where Henry Lawrence was to join them before returning to England. This plan was interrupted when Canning requested that Lawrence take over the Chief Commissionership of Oudh. Henry Montgomery Lawrence (1806-57) served in India between 1823 and 1857. Besides serving in numerous military campaigns, Lawrence was stationed in Kabul (1842), Nepal (1843-46), The Punjab (1849-53) Rajputana (1854-57) and Oudh (1857). He was killed in Lucknow during the Mutiny.
