Octavo volume, hal-leather binding with marbled paper boards, measuring 190 x 135 mm; pp. 64, with pp. 2 facsimile letter from Edward Everett to the publishers, dated 15 Jan 1865, and commending the accuracy of the publication, is bound in before the titlepage. The work contains biographical sketches of six centenarians who had served in the American War of Independence, with a tipped-in portrait of each man and a lithographed view of their residences. The six subjects are: Samuel Downing (b. 1761), Daniel Waldo (b. 1762), Lemuel Cook (b. 1759), Alexander Milliner (b. 1760), William Hutchings (b. 1764) and Adam Link (1761-1864).
