Title:

James Burgess, Report on the antiquities in the Bidar and Aurangabad districts, in the territories of His Highness the Nizam of Hyderabad, being the result of the third season's operations of the Archaeological Survey of Western India. 1875-76 (London: Wm. H. Allen and Co., 13, Waterloo Place, S.W.; Trübner and Co., 57 & 59, Ludgate Hill; Edward Stanford, Charing Cross, 1878).

Scope & Content:

Printed report with original photographs pasted in. Locations include: Dharasinva, Karusa, Umnabad, Bidar, Amba, Sankkhed, Aurangabad and Ellora. The photographs appear to be Burgess' own work, although some (such as the two photographs of the temple at Narayanpur) appear to be the work of David Harold Day Sykes, a Bombay photographer who was commissioned by Burgess to take architectural photographs on a number of occasions. The Narayanpur photographs also appear in Photo 1000/4 (India Office Series) and are there credited to Sykes.
