A geographical dictionary in six languages. This volume contains the first 5 juan (卷) of a 24 juan work, arranged as 4 silk-covered parts together in a western binding. Entries run from right to left. The place-name is given first in Manchu script, followed by a description of the location and its physical characteristics in Chinese. The next entries are the pronunciation of the place-name rendered in Chinese, Mongolian, Tibetan, Oirat (Todo) and Uighur (Arabic) scripts. Title on spine: "Ch'in ting hsi yü t'ung wen chih [Wade Giles] -- A Topographical Dictionary of Central Asia. Chüan 1-5".
