Maḥzor Viṭry (vol. 2)
Contents
Maḥzor Viṭry, volume 2.
Language(s): Hebrew
ff. 1r-268vTitle: Maḥzor ViṭryTitle: מחזור ויטריThe Vitry Maḥzor contains decisions and rules concerning religious practise, besides responsa by Rashi and other authorities, both contemporary and earlier. The work is cited as early as the 12th century in Jacob Tam's Sefer ha-Yashar as having been compiled by Simḥah. Various additions were afterward made to this maḥzor, a large proportion of which, designated by the letter ת' ("tosafot"), are by Isaac ben Dorbolo (Durbal). Other additions are by Avraham ben Natan Yarhi, author of Ha-Manhig, and are designated by the letters אב"ן, his initials. This copy of the work contains also Perush Pirḳe avot, not present in any other manuscript of Maḥzor Viṭry.
Folios 261-268 contain a calendar (imperfect at the end). The section of Seder ha-teḳufot ṿeha-moladot (folio 267v) begins as follows: 'according to the number of the year 5002 A.M., it being the fifth year of the 264th cycle.' It seems therefore that the copy was not finished before 5002, i.e. 1242.
