Title:

Letter in Chinese, Manchu, and Latin, of Kangxi 55 (1716)

Scope & Content:

A letter, in Chinese, Manchu, and Latin printed in red ink. Dated Kangxi 55th year, 9th month, 17th day (31 October 1716). The letter asks missionaries who had been sent to Europe to return to China: 'Nisi hominies a nobis missi revertantur, deerit verum fundamentum.' Signed by Ripa, Pedrini, Stumpt, Suares, etc.

The letter begins: 'U Ing Diyan-i jergi ba-i bithe weilere ba-i hafan Iduri, Wang Doo Hūwa, Joocang sei bithe, Si Yang ci jihe urse de bireme jasiha ...' (ᡠ ᡞᡢ ᡩᡞᠶᠠᠨ ᠢ ᠵᡝᠷᡤᡞ ᠪᠠ ᠢ ᠪᡞᡨ᠌ᡥᡝ ᠸᡝᠢᠢᠯᡞᠷᡝ ᠪᠠ ᠢ ᡥᠠᡶᠠᠨ ᡳᡩᡠᠷᠢ᠂ ᠸᠠᡢ ᡩᠣᠣ ᡥᡠᠸᠠ᠂ ᠵᠣᠣᠴᠠᡢ ᠰᡝᡞ ᠪᡞᡨ᠌ᡥᡝ) [Manchu]; 'Wuying dian deng chujian xiu shu guan Yidouli, Wang Daohua, Zhao Chang deng ziji yu zi Xiyanglai de zhong ren ...'
